In this module, we guide you through the practical steps of establishing a compliant and professional business that reflects your values and vision. You’ll learn how to: • Choose the right business structure for your goals • Select a business name that resonates and represents your service • Develop a strong, consistent brand identity • Design a service model that aligns with your capacity and the needs of your ideal clients • Understand the legal and financial basics including: • Insurance requirements • Associations to consider joining • Setting up a separate bank account • Estimating your start-up costs • Navigate key financial tools and responsibilities: • Choosing the right accounting software • Understanding GST, tax, and superannuation obligations This module is about more than ticking boxes—it’s about building a business that feels aligned, sustainable, and ready for growth. At the end, you’ll be invited to complete a short feedback form to reflect on what you’ve learned and identify any areas where you may want more support.

In this lesson, we kick off Module 2: Practical Business Set-Up by guiding you through two key early decisions: choosing the proper business structure and naming your business.

We explore the four main business structures (sole trader, partnership, company, and trust), explaining the pros and cons of each and how they might suit your stage of business. You’ll hear how we navigated these decisions ourselves and learn how your structure can evolve as your business grows.

We’ll also help you start brainstorming your business name—something clear, simple, and meaningful that reflects your core purpose. You’ll be guided through reflection activities and shown how to check business name and domain availability, as well as where to register your name safely (without being overcharged!).

By the end of this lesson, you’ll have a solid understanding of your options and be ready to move forward with clarity and confidence.
